Yesterday, Labour had a meeting with the FG concerning the ongoing Nation-wide protest on fuel subsidy removal. The meeting ended in deadlock as the FG says the fuel price should be N120.00 while NLC says should be N90.00 No agreement we met on both side, so the strike continues as it enters its 5th day today... Nigerians says should be N65.00 no more no less

JANUARY 8, 2012 President Goodluck Jonathan again on Saturday insisted that the controversial deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector was necessary if the nation must move forward. In the week decided to embark on a Nationwide strike on Monday 9th January 2012 following the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. But just at a time when all it's affiliates such as the Nigerian Medical Association (NBA), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association on Nigeria (PENGASSAN)n etc has all given their backing to the NLC/TUC planned strike, the court has now asked them to reverse their plan. The serene town of Mubi, the commercial nerve centre of Adamawa State, experienced a bloodbath yesterday as gunmen killed 20 people, including a manager of one of the new generation banks and his driver. Deeper Life Bible Church was also bombed without casualties. Of the 20 victims, four persons were shot dead on the spot, Thursday night, at Goodwill Hotel in Mubi by gunmen who rode on motor bikes. The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday said it would not rescind the removal of the subsidy on petroleum products. Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, told newsmen at the end of the emergency FEC meeting at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, that government was not unmindful of the pains being experienced by Nigerians, as a result of the action. He said the Federal Government had commenced a ‘massive mass transit scheme’ to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on transportation.
