Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Department of State Services (DSS) permission to detain Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore for 45 days. The secret police had applied in an exparte motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/ 915/19 to detain Sowore for 90 days. Recall that some DSS operatives picked up Sowore in a hotel in Lagos, in connection with the #RevolutionNow protest he spearheaded. He was picked up in the early hours of Saturday and transported to a DSS facility in Abuja on Sunday morning and has remained there since. The DSS subsequently applied for a court order authorizing it to detain the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) beyond the 48 hours mandated by law. Counsel for the DSS, G. O. Abadua, argued that the 90-day period would enable the agency to complete its investigations. However, Justice Taiwo granted the DSS 45 days, which is renewable for a further number of days
